INDIANAPOLIS — Welcome to the best weather day of the week and the warmest, too. That's not saying much with "highs" this afternoon only in the lower 40s — a good 10 degrees below the daily average high for mid-November.

However, it certainly is a nice recovery from the cold start in the teens and 20s. Sunshine today is in advance of the next wintry system that's still on target to arrive Tuesday morning. While the more impactful snow with this system is more likely to be positioned farther to our west-northwest, the timing of arrival between 5-7 a.m. mean central Indiana roads will be wet to locally slushy during the commute Tuesday.

We're expecting snow amounts to range from a coating to locally 2 inches. That's not terribly heavy, but again, it's terribly timed. Like Saturday, most roads will be wet, but bridges/overpasses are fair game to become slick before temperatures get above freezing later in the morning and early afternoon.

During that time, the snow and system will be weakening and pivoting to the north. In its wake, we expect light snow and drizzle to linger into Tuesday evening.

But we're just getting started on snow chances this week, with the likelihood of additional snow showers and heavier snow bursts emerging at times between Tuesday night into Friday. This occurs in response upper air disturbances traversing the region and even colder air that arrives Friday into the weekend.

Expect localized accumulation during that time, which precedes our coldest daytime highs since mid-March. We're forecasting wind chills of 5-10 degrees Friday morning and "highs" only in the mid-20s, which is colder than the average "low" for this time of year.

Chilly air continues into the weekend, but long-range guidance shows a brightening sky Sunday into early next week.
