20-year-old man killed in far east Indianapolis shooting

In an update Sept. 12, IMPD said detectives believe the shooting happened in the 10000 block of Montery Road, near 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after a 20-year-old man was fatally shot on the far east side of Indianapolis Monday evening.

Officers responded to the 10000 block of John Jay Drive, near North Mitthoefer Road and 38th Street, just before 6 p.m. Sept. 11 on a report of a person shot.

According to IMPD, officers arrived on the scene to find a man in a parking lot who had apparently been shot. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 20-year-old Keontae Imauni Walls

In an update Tuesday, IMPD said detectives believe the shooting happened in the 10000 block of Montery Road, near 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road, and the victim was driven to John Jay Drive.

"Anyone with cameras in the area of Montery Road is asked to review their cameras shortly before 6:00 pm on Monday to see if they may have captured the incident or anyone coming/going from the area," an IMPD spokesperson said in a statement.

No further information on the circumstances of the shooting has been provided by police.

NOTE: IMPD initially said detectives believe the shooting happened at Montery Court, but corrected it to Montery Road.
