Juvenile female driver charged in Henry County crash that killed 15-year-old girl

The single-vehicle crash happened around 9:50 p.m. April 10, 2023, in the 4000 block of South Kennard Road, near West County Road 450 South.

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. — Prosecutors filed criminal charges against a juvenile female driver in connection to a crash in April 2023 in which a 15-year-old girl died.

Henry County Prosecutor Michael J. Mahroney filed charges against the driver, who is not being identified since she is a minor.

The single-vehicle crash happened around 9:50 p.m. April 10, 2023, in the 4000 block of South Kennard Road, near West County Road 450 South.

The preliminary investigation revealed a juvenile from New Castle was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt north on South Kennard Road when the car went off the roadway and overturned in a field onto the driver's side.

After reconstructing the crash, investigators determined the driver was going at an unsafe speed while going around a curve, causing her to lose control of the car.

The 15-year-old girl, who police said was in the backseat and was not wearing a seatbelt, died from her injuries.

The driver and a female passenger in the front seat were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The juvenile driver is facing charges of criminal recklessness and criminal homicide.
