Indoor football team coming to new Fishers Event Center

The team will play in the highly anticipated arena, which is currently under construction to host the Indy Fuel hockey team.

FISHERS, Ind. — A professional indoor football team is coming to Hamilton County.

The team will play in the highly anticipated Fishers Event Center, which is currently under construction to host the Indy Fuel hockey team.

"The opportunity to bring in this type of caliber organization and franchise to come to this facility, to fill that facility for a number of nights is really, really important," Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said.

He said the venue, along with both teams playing there, will help boost the local economy in and around the event center.

"We got St. Elmo and 1933, those are all Indianapolis favorites that have come here to be a part of this. So we definitely want to keep Indiana flavor here," Fadness said. "We got Sun King Brewing being a big part of this development."

Starting next year, football fanatics can catch a game, even when the NFL season is over.

"Our games are being played when the NFL season is done. So, for the football enthusiasts, you don't have to take a break from football," Indoor Football League commissioner Todd Tryon said. "It is action-packed, and we always like to say we're going to throw a big party, and at some point, a football game is going to break out, and there is something for everybody."

As for the name of the football team, that too is under construction.

"I think we got a blueprint that we can follow. I don't want to commit to anything yet, but we have a lot of thoughts rolling around, and I think people are going to like what they hear and see," Hallett Entertainment owner Jim Hallett said.

There are currently 16 teams in the Indoor Football League in 12 states, including franchises in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
