13INside Track visits ASC's Brownsburg Meadows

Brownsburg Meadows has two neighborhoods and is changing one of them to be a female-only community.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. — ARTICLE SPONSORED BY AMERICAN SENIOR COMMUNITIES

Brownsburg Meadows, part of American Senior Communities, provides care to individuals living with Alzheimer's Disease and related forms of dementia.

Melanie Perry, Director of Memory Care Support Services, notes that Brownsburg Meadows has two neighborhoods, both with a gender-integrated format where males and females live together.

Now, Brownsburg Meadows is changing one of the neighborhoods to a female-only community.

"We find that some people are not always comfortable living in close quarters with those of the opposite gender. Maybe we have someone who has had a trauma or a discomfort in the past with living with individuals of the opposite gender," Perry said. "Or maybe it's just a woman who loves to 'live with the girls' and be comfortable without having gentlemen in the immediate vicinity. Those individuals will be perfect for our female-specific neighborhood."

Melanie said there are other differences in the two communities. "Within our female specific cottage, the décor will be very female-specific," she told 13 INside Track. "Our life-enrichment opportunities will also speak to the traditional interests, hobbies, and past-times of women."

Brownsburg Meadows said it will maintain that gender integrated neighborhood where males and females will live together for those who like to have a little bit of variety that living in a gender integrated situation can live.

The integrated neighborhood will still have female-specific interests in mind. However, Brownsburg Meadows also plans to add some of the gentlemen-specific décor and interests as well. "Maybe a gentlemen's group on a regular basis, a little more sports watching, and those types of things for gentlemen," Perry said.
