MADISON COUNTY, INDIANA, Ind. — Police in Madison County are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a semi north of Fortville early Sunday.

The crash was reported around 9 a.m. May 5 at the intersection of State Road 13 and West Fall Creek Drive. That's roughly two miles north of Fortville.

A semi driven by a Michigan man was traveling north on State Road 13 when a Fortville man "intentionally entered the roadway," the Madison County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

The semi driver attempted to avoid the man, who was struck by the passenger side of the semi, police said.

The pedestrian was taken in critical condition to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The semi driver was not hurt and is cooperating with the investigation, and alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in this crash, police said.
