1 critically injured after car hits telephone pole, catches fire after 2-vehicle crash in Beech Grove

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Churchman Avenue, near South Keystone Avenue and East Raymond Street.

INDIANAPOLIS — One person was critically injured in a two-car crash in Beech Grove Sunday afternoon.

According to an officer with the Beech Grove Police Department, around 1:30 p.m. May 5, officers were called to the 2100 block of Churchman Avenue, near East Raymond Street and South Keystone Avenue, on a report of a two-car crash with entrapment.

Officers arrived and found two cars involved in a crash with a telephone pole having collapsed on one of them. According to a preliminary investigation, one car was driving northwest on Churchman Avenue when it collided with another car exiting Royal Road.

The car that was traveling on Churchman Avenue was the car that struck the telephone pole. Police said a live wire from the telephone pole briefly caught the car on fire. The driver of that vehicle was listed in critical condition.
