Cyndi Carrasco will serve the rest of Sen. Jack Sandlin's term, following his death last month.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Republicans have named a successor to late State Sen. Jack Sandlin.

Cyndi Carrasco was chosen to fill Sandlin's seat in District 36 at a caucus Wednesday evening. She received 53 of the 58 votes cast in the caucus, with State Rep. John Jacobs, R-District 93, receiving the other five.

Sandlin died unexpectedly last month at the age of 72.

Carrasco, who is currently Vice President and General Counsel at the University of Indianapolis, where she also oversees the university's police department, will serve the remainder of Sandlin's term.

"I will never try to be another Jack, but I will keep his legacy at heart, and will be your representative at the Statehouse and in the community as I fight for Hoosier families and our foundational conservative principles," Carrasco said.
