INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Thanksgiving is less than a week away, which means it's time for Christmas events to get underway around central Indiana.

Friday night features a chance to get a head start on your Black Friday shopping and shop local, too. Mass Ave's annual "Midnight Shopper: Sip & Stroll" got underway late Friday afternoon.

Shops and restaurants along Mass Ave are staying open late Friday and not closing their doors until midnight.

If you want to see an amazing holiday light show, Winterlights is back at Newfields.

The show opened Friday and more than 100,000 people are expected to check it out through January 5. Tickets sell out quickly, so get yours early.

Also starting Friday is the "Christmas at the Zoo" at the Indianapolis Zoo and "Jingle Rails" at the Eiteljorg Museum. "Jolly Days" starts at the Children's Museum of Indianapolis on Saturday.

Of course, next Friday, Monument Circle will light up with holiday cheer at Downtown Indy Inc.'s Circle of Lights presented by IBEW 481. If you can't make it downtown for the show, you can watch live on Channel 13.

The Carmel Christkindlmarkt opened last week.
