Good News: FDIC International

Indianapolis is hosting 35,000 first responders at the Fire Department Instructors Conference.

INDIANAPOLIS — We're in downtown Indianapolis for this week's installment of Good News.

Did you know there's 35,000 firefighters in town this week? At FDIC International, they're learning all the new techniques to keep people safe in their communities.

We asked one firefighter what makes the career so gratifying.

"It's a calling," he said. "You don't just volunteer and wake up one day and want to do it — you have it in your heart to want to want to do it. Helping people, you know, it's what's in firefighters' hearts, and I think that's what drives them a lot."

A convention-goer from South Carolina gave us his first impressions of Indianapolis.

"It's amazing," he said. "This is my first time here. So it's great. Like the city is great, the people are great. Everything here is awesome. It's amazing."

Another firefighter said he liked that the job is a little different every day.

"We're doing a positive thing. We're making positive impacts into the communities that we serve, and it's just all around great," he said.
