Indy youth organizations help young boys recognize their dreams

MOVE Inc. and New B.O.Y. Indianapolis wanted to help young men think about their futures.

INDIANAPOLIS — Two youth organizations came together Saturday to help young men set goals for the future.

When kids walked in the door, they were handed a blank poster and a marker.

The task? Write anything they could dream.

"Dream as far as you want to dream without any expectations or limits to it," said Antonio Patton, with MOVE Inc.

MOVE Inc. and New B.O.Y. hosted this vision board event to help these young men think about their futures.

"You really don't see it until you start doing it, and when you start seeing the results of it, it makes you want to do it even more," said Jahsan Wright, a mentor.

While the kids created their boards, leaders encouraged them to work with their peers and feed off of each other's dreams.

"What this mental challenge will do is allow them to navigate through real barriers in life and obstacles to make conscious decisions," Patton said.

Some of those dreams are already a reality. Karter Ballard just started a T-shirt business, but he wants to accomplish more of his dreams.

Ballard said these vision boards will help him and his peer always remember their goals.

"Think of it as basketball, someone does a screen on you and you fall on the floor," Ballard said. "Just don't stay there, get back up."

Now that the visions are permanent on paper, leaders hope they are now a permanent part in these boys' lives.
