'He's smiling down on us' | New North Central High School athletic facility named in honor of Paul Loggan

Loggan, the school's former athletic director, is still very much a part of the North Central community.

INDIANAPOLIS — Paul Loggan was a friend, mentor, teacher, and coach to many whose dream was for North Central High School students to have a facility they could be proud of.

That dream is now a reality.

Loggan, the school's former athletic director, died four years ago after a battle with COVID, but he is still very much a part of the North Central community.

A new athletic facility just opened at the school with a special touch: Loggan's name.

"It gets emotional just thinking his name is on the building and he's not here to see it, but this is his dream," said Paul's son, Michael.

A dream that became a reality, thanks to the community and a 2020 referendum.

"It just shows how awesome this community is and how they can rally behind the ones that they love, and I couldn't think of anything more special than to be named after my father here," Michael said.

The 91,000-square-foot building includes an indoor track, four basketball courts, volleyball courts and a wrestling room.

Student athletes call it a game-changer.

"It's awesome," said Kaiden Kreinhagen. "I'm going to college and when I visited all the college arenas, this is what their practice facilities look like. This is unbelievable and this is a surreal opportunity to be a part of."

"Even on days we usually wouldn't be able to practice, we can come in here and stay on track with our schedule," said student Kaelina Matthews.

"It's what separates kind of North Central High School athletics to just our student athletes, to give them the top-notch facilities. To allow them any advantage they could have to compete at the highest level. At the end of the day, he was all for the kids," said Michael Loggan.

They can't wait to see what the future holds for the athletes and the facility.

"This facility is going to be a huge part of making sure we continue the success of North Central athletics," said North Central athletic director Andy Elkins.

"He's smiling down on us right now, beaming with pride, and wouldn't want it any other way," Loggan said.
