Man sentenced in deadly Lawrence gas station shooting

Lei Gamble was convicted on murder, attempted robbery and other charges in the killing of Israel Eduardo Raymundo Cruz.

LAWRENCE, Ind — A judge sentenced Lei Gamble to 48 years in the deadly shooting at a Lawrence gas station in September 2021.

On Sept. 1, 2021, police were called to the 4200 block of North Post Road, near East 42nd Street on a report of a person shot.

Police got to the scene and found Cruz in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead.

Surveillance video showed Gamble and Isaiah Davie-Franks approach Cruz's car and then the three struggling. The video then showed both suspects shoot Cruz.

A man is in critical condition after being shot in Lawrence in the 4200 block of North Post Road Wednesday morning.

During a police interview, Gamble admitted planning the robbery and being driven to the gas station by his sister.

In October 2022, Davie-Franks pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in this crime. Gamble's sister, Taleiah Gamble, has also been charged for her alleged role in the incident. Her case is still pending.

Gamble's sentence includes 45 years in prison, followed by two years of home detention and one year of probation.
