IMPD: Man arrested on preliminary murder charge after deadly east side shooting

Police were called to the Subway at East 38th Street and Emerson Avenue Friday afternoon and found two people shot.

INDIANAPOLIS — A man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a deadly shooting last week on Indianapolis' east side.

Raymond Gilder, 31, was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder, IMPD said Tuesday.

IMPD officers responded around 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, to the Subway restaurant in the Forest Manor area.

Officers said two people showed up in a white car outside the Subway at East 38th Street and Emerson Avenue. When police got there, they found one man and one woman shot.

Police said the man was in critical condition and the woman was stable when they arrived. Investigators believe they were shot at a separate location.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where the man was pronounced dead.

The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the deceased as 24-year-old Randall Louis Shields III.

According to court documents, a mother told police the two people who were shot were her son and daughter.

Court documents allege the female victim was arguing with her boyfriend, who was later identified as Raymond Gilder. The mother allegedly told police her daughter called her to pick her up from her boyfriend's apartment, so she went there with her son, Shields.

After an argument, the woman told police Gilder shot at Shields, who then returned fire.

Shortly after the shooting, Gilder was found with an apparent gunshot wound nearby in the 5200 block of Butler Terrace. He was said to be in stable condition.

Gilder was then arrested on a murder charge and taken to the Criminal Justice Campus.
