ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson man will spend 55 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing his mother in 2022.

A Madison County judge sentenced 29-year-old Jiam Adonimani Payton Hart on Dec. 18 following a plea agreement in November.

On Sept. 25, 2022, Anderson police officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1600 block of Meridian Street, near State Road 32 and Central Avenue, and found the body of 49-year-old Janet Hart.

According to court documents, Janet's daughter discovered her body and that her mother had been stabbed in the back multiple times.

Police then started searching for Janet's son, Jiam. When they found Jiam, he had his mother's credit card on him.

According to Janet's daughter, Jiam and his mother had been arguing over food and other issues the night before she was found dead. The daughter said Janet texted her that Jiam was "acting like a fool" and was yelling and spitting at her.

During a search of the home, police allegedly found a petition Janet had filed, requesting that Jiam be committed into a group home. Janet had documented that Jiam is physically aggressive toward her and suffers from hallucinations, paranoia and delusions. The petition was dated Sept. 13, 2022, and stated Janet believed Jiam was a danger to himself and others.

According to court documents, Jiam said his mother kicked him out of her house and that because he doesn't live there, he is not her son.

When speaking to detectives, Jiam allegedly said multiple times, "You solved it."
