Police told 13News the incident happened Monday around 3:30 a.m. at a home in the 5800 block of Grevillea Lane, near Moon and Miles roads.

PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Plainfield police are investigating a murder-suicide that happened inside a home Monday morning.

Police were called to a home in the 5800 block of Grevillea Lane, near Moon and Miles roads, around 4:00 a.m. Dec. 18 for a reported burglary.

Police arrived and found two people dead. They were later identified as Jessica Diane Stoebick, 47, and Ryan Gibbs, 41, both of Plainfield. Gibbs was identified as the ex-husband of Stoebick.

Officers discovered a shattered basement entry window and located two dead adults in the home.

Three teenage children who were inside the home during the incident were not injured and called police.

Plainfield police are investigating this incident as a murder-suicide and said there is no threat to public safety.

"This investigation is profoundly challenging for the affected family, particularly given the holiday season. We ask for the community's support in keeping the family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," police said in a statement.

Previous court records show Stoebick obtained protective orders against Gibbs at least two separate times, once in October 2021 and again in April 2023.

13News has learned Gibbs had previous convictions for invasion of privacy and violating a no contact order. He still had a pending case from charges filed in April for invasion of privacy, intimidation, stalking, resisting law enforcement and distribution of an intimate image. He was due back in court in January.

This investigation is ongoing, and anyone with more information is encouraged to contact Detective Taylor Wilson at 317-754-5284.

NOTE: Police were initially investigating the incident as a burglary.
