Woman arrested for prostitution at Irvington massage parlor

Neighbors tipped officers off that prostitution may have been going on at a massage parlor.

INDIANAPOLIS — Police arrested a woman Wednesday at a massage parlor on the east side after a tip for neighbors who suspected prostitution.

Officers conducted a search at a spa on East Washington Street, near Ritter Avenue. Guihua Ding, 60, was arrested and is now facing prostitution charges.

Police recovered nearly $1,000 from inside the business.

Those who live and work near the business suspected something was wrong.

"Most business owners here in Irvington do look out for other businesses here. They try to help each other out," said Sam Smith, who runs George Thomas Florist.

Smith said the massage parlor may have been in operation for a few months.

"Several of the businesses that are friendly to each other said, 'Hey, did you notice something's been going on down there,' whether its construction or a little sign in the window. And a few people started talking and said that doesn't look quite right," Smith said.

It was what was going on inside the spa that drew more concern.

Police say tips from the public helped officers make an arrest.

"The businesses want to look out for each other as well as the people living here, and so we want to have a safe place. We want a safe place for our employees to work and for our clients to come in we want them to be safe," Smith said.
