INDIANAPOLIS — Rain has moved in and will increase in coverage area throughout the afternoon as a cold front moves through the state.

You'll want to be rain-gear-ready throughout the day today as scattered showers with embedded thunderstorms will be likely this afternoon and into the evening. While severe storms are not expected, brief heavy downpours and lightning will be a threat. Outdoor plans and the evening rush hour will be impacted. Temperatures will still top out in the low-to-mid-70s despite the rain chances and increased clouds.
OVERNIGHT:
This boundary will then stall just east of Indiana this evening, keeping a few showers around, especially across the southeastern tier of the state overnight. Rain will wrap up by daybreak Tuesday.
TUESDAY:
Some lingering clouds early, especially southeast. Becoming sunny with highs in the mid-70s.
FIRST DAY OF MAY:
Temperatures will then climb well above average with highs near 80 to begin the month of May Wednesday and into the low 80s Thursday. A stray shower or storm will be possible Wednesday and Thursday as a weak wave moves through.
The better chance of rain and storms returns Friday along a more impactful system. It will be slightly cooler in the mid-70s.

Rain looks to move out to start next weekend, with the exception of a few stray showers lingering across the eastern tier of the state through Saturday morning. Temperatures look pleasant in the mid-50s Saturday morning for the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, with highs in the mid-70s as skies clear in the afternoon.
We'll see lots of dry hours Sunday, with highs in the low 70s ahead of shower chances returning in the late evening.
