INDIANAPOLIS — Hoosiers have long claimed we're known for our hospitality. Now, new rankings are backing that up as Indianapolis is named the friendliest Midwestern city, according to a new list released by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.

Indy ranked fourth overall in "The Top 10 Friendliest Cities in the U.S." list,  just one of two Midwestern states who did. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, trailed Indy, coming in fifth friendliest overall.

The travel magazine, which also named three Indianapolis hotels to their best Midwest hotels list, credited our friendliness to a solid food scene.

"Could it be that Indianapolis is friendly because it’s so well-fed? You might as well visit yourself to find out," the article said.

Indy's high rankings among several tourism lists portends well for the city as a prestigious slate of events will put Hoosier hospitality to the test in 2024, as the city plans to play host to the NBA All-Star Game, NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, rare solar eclipse, 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500, U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Taylor Swift's Era's Tour and the Big 10 Football Championships.

Greenville, South Carolina, was named the friendliest city overall.
