Martinsville woman killed in 7-vehicle crash along I-70 near Plainfield

The crash was reported around noon Saturday near Old State Highway 267. Diane Sue Jucha, 68, was killed.

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 just west of Indianapolis Saturday claimed one life and injured two other people.

The collision, which involved three semi-tractor trailers and four passenger vehicles, happened around noon in the eastbound lanes near Old State Road 267.

When first responders arrived, they found one of the vehicles had overturned and was on fire. Officials found a body inside.

A state police spokesperson said one person was killed. Two other people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials later identified the deceased as Diane Sue Jucha, 68, of Martinsville.

While the circumstances surrounding the accident are still under investigation, the spokesperson said a preliminary investigation "determined traffic was backed up from a minor crash on the side of the interstate just west of the crash scene. As traffic backed up, the driver of a semi-tractor trailer failed to stop in time and hit the back of stopped traffic. Two vehicles rolled over and several other vehicles received heavy damage."

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly six hours after the crash.
