RH Indianapolis, The Gallery at the DeHaan Estate plans grand opening Friday

A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m.

INDIANAPOLIS — On Friday, home furnishings retailer Restoration Hardware is holding a grand opening in Indianapolis for its latest showroom.

The business occupies the former DeHaan Mansion, home of the late Christel DeHaan. The businesswoman, philanthropist and community leader impacted Indianapolis and beyond.

RH Indianapolis The Gallery at the DeHaan Estate will feature a restaurant and wine bar as well as an interior design studio and artistic installations.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m..

The gallery and restaurant, located at 4501 North Michigan Road, is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The purchase of the property by M Development and plans for the retailer were announced in April, 2022. While the estate was listed at the time for $14 million, a purchase price was not disclosed.

"Not a traditional showroom," Tim Ochs told 13News at the time. "It's a showroom in the sense that the rooms in the house will be staged."

Ochs said part of the deal that made it attractive is that the only changes to the property will be the addition of a small parking lot. There will be no new structures, no landscaping changes and not even a tree removed.

"This is a use that is going to preserve the way the property is laid out," Ochs said.

Paul Montgomery of Christel House International led 13News on a tour inside the mansion just weeks after it was listed on the market.

"Not only do you not feel like you're in Indiana, you don't feel like you're in the United States," said Montgomery, overlooking the 150-acre property. "You feel like you're in a villa."
