GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — An Indianapolis man was killed in a crash on I-69 in Grant County Monday night.

It happened just before 9 p.m. between the State Road 18 and State Road 5 interchanges, around the 267 mile marker, according to Indiana State Police.

State police say 62-year-old Gary Byrd was killed in the crash. Investigators say Byrd was southbound on I-69, driving between two semis when traffic slowed and Byrd's vehicle was rear-ended by the semi traveling behind him. The impact of that crash pushed Byrd's Kia Sedona into the livestock trailer of the semi in front of him.

Byrd died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 62-year-old Charles Wright Jr. of Markleville, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of two other semis involved in the crash were not injured.

The southbound lanes of the interstate were closed several hours while police investigated the crash.
