East Indianapolis church to start 10-week Black history program

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Mt. Carmel Church is beginning its 10 week series called "Black History From K to Gray."

INDIANAPOLIS — If you're wanting to learn more about Black history, a church on the east side of Indianapolis is kicking off a two-month Black history program.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Mt. Carmel Church is beginning its 10 week series called "Black History From K to Gray."

Organizers say it will be an educational program that will feature several key speakers and authors, highlighting Black history beginning with the Bible, all the way through recent Black Lives Matter movements.

They're hoping all walks of life, including children, will come out and learn.

"History is a game-changer. If you don't know where you've been, you don't know where you are, and you can't determine where you're going," Pastor Theron Williams said. "That's what we're going to be doing for the next 10 weeks here at the Mt. Carmel Church."

The program starts at 6:30 p.m. at 9610 42nd St., near North Mitthoefer Road.
