'Christmas at the Zoo' returns for 55th year

Since 1967, Christmas at the Zoo has been a holiday favorite for Hoosiers across the city.

INDIANAPOLIS — More holiday-themed events are coming to downtown Indianapolis as the month of November rolls on.

The Indianapolis Zoo will kick off its holiday season celebrations with the return of "Christmas at the Zoo" beginning Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.

According to the Zoo's website, the 2023 edition will feature new décor around Santa's Village.

Speaking of Santa, children wanting an opportunity to tell Santa what they want for Christmas will be able to do so at the "Santa's Study" area from 5 p.m. until close. Visits with Santa run through Dec. 23.

In addition to the new décor, new characters such as the Ice Princess and Jack Frost will make appearances at the zoo.

White River Gardens will also be re-opened, meaning more opportunities to see the unique light displays.

The light displays at the event were nominated for USA Today's "10 Best Zoo Lights" contest. You can vote for "Christmas at the Zoo" as your favorite light show here
