INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD detectives arrested a 40-year-old woman for her alleged role in a homicide that happened on the city's near northeast side in December 2022.

Just before 11 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2022, officers responded to the 3600 block of North Lasalle Street, southwest of 38th Street and North Sherman Drive, for a call to check on a person.

Police found a man, later identified as 47-year-old James Milton, Jr., inside of a car with traumatic injuries. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner's Office confirmed Milton had stab wounds and ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives responded to the scene and detained a 40-year-old woman as a person of interest. After consulting with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, detectives released the woman, pending further investigation.

On May 17, 2024, the Marion County Prosecutor's Office charged the 40-year-old woman with murder and intimidation, and issued a warrant for her arrest.

Officers took her into custody without incident that day in the 6100 block of North Keystone Avenue, near Broad Ripple Avenue.

Once the woman was in custody, officers conducted a separate investigation involving her and the 42-year-old man she was with at the time of her arrest.

A detective and his K-9 partner responded to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff around the car they were in. Police said the K-9 alerted the detective to the presence of a controlled substance.

In the car, detectives got a search warrant and found cocaine, marijuana and evidence of drug dealing.

The man and woman were both arrested, and later charged, with possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana, with the man also facing a charge of driving while suspended.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Detective Gregory Shue at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email Gregory.Shue@indy.gov.
