18-year-old arrested after allegedly shooting, killing his brother on Indy's east side

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. Friday near East 38th Street and Post Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting on Indianapolis' east side late Friday.

Prosecutors filed a formal murder charge against Terry Davis Jr., of Indianapolis, on Wednesday, March 20.

An IMPD spokesperson said officers were sent to investigate a reported shooting around 11 p.m. March 15 in the 3900 block of Ireland Drive, which is near East 38th Street and North Post Road. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot.

The victim, later identified as the Davis' brother, 31-year-old Mark Miles Jr., was taken to a hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to court documents, Davis' mother said her 18-year-old son was acting strange when she got home from work.

Davis' mother also told detectives that Davis was carrying around a rifle and allegedly told his mom that he was "God," and if she didn't listen, he was "going to shoot her in the face."

According to court documents, the mother said she then woke up one of her other sons and got out of the house to call police when she heard multiple gunshots. The mother told detectives Davis then came out of the house while holding the rifle and allegedly admitted to shooting his brother.

Davis fled the scene and was caught by police around 1 a.m. Saturday, March 16. Court documents say Davis was hiding in the bed of a truck approximately one mile south from where the shooting happened. Detectives said they also found the rifle in a hoodie, as well as a pistol that had been shot empty.

Police took Davis into custody, and he declined to speak to detectives.
