Police: Arson suspect arrested after Fortville fire

An arson suspect was arrested in Delaware County after a fire in Fortville Tuesday night, police said.

FORTVILLE, Ind. — An arson suspect was arrested in Delaware County after a fire in Fortville Tuesday night, police said.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. March 26, officers with the Fortville Police Department responded to the 400 block of Virginia Street, near North Leland Street on the north side of town, to assist the fire department regarding a building fire with a person possibly still inside.

The fire was extinguished with help from multiple departments and no people were found inside.

"Upon further investigation there was evidence discovered to believe the cause of the fire to be arson motivated," the Fortville Police Department said in a statement.

An arson suspect was arrested in Delaware County after a fire in Fortville Tuesday night, police said.

A possible suspect was identified and the police department sent a notice out to surrounding agencies to be on the lookout for them and the car they were last driving.

The suspect, who has not been identified by police, was located in Yorktown, Indiana, and detained by deputies with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.

The suspect was transported to the Hancock County Jail, where they were booked on multiple outstanding warrants and additional preliminary charges, police said.

The investigation into the fire remains ongoing.
