Indiana State Police K-9 Maverick is retiring after serving for more than eight years.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police K-9 Maverick has retired after serving for more than eight years.

Maverick was partnered with Sgt. Susan Rinschler.

He was a dual-purpose K-9 for the department, helping with community outreach and deployed in the field. 

Maverick regularly deployed with the Indiana State Police SWAT team for building searches, and he assisted the U.S. Marshals Service with catching violent felons.

The K-9 also helped the U.S. Postal Service in seizing hundreds of pounds of drugs and thousands in drug money.

Indiana State Police K-9 Maverick is retiring after serving for more than eight years.

Later in his career, he helped the IMPD Violent Crime Reduction Team with locating drugs and helping with high-risk traffic stops.

Maverick will now enjoy his retirement as a pet with his handler Sgt. Rinschler.
