Suspect wanted by Indiana DNR, Howard County Sheriff's Office after allegedly shooting hawk at Kokomo park

The Indiana DNR and Howard County Sheriff's Office say this suspect allegedly shot a protected bird species at Jackson Morrow Park in Kokomo.

KOKOMO, Ind. — The Howard County Sheriff's Office and Indiana Department of Natural Resources are asking the public for help locating a suspect who is accused of shooting a hawk.

According to a social media post from the HCSO, on Sunday, March 31 around 7 p.m., an Indiana DNR officer responded to Jackson Morrow Park in Kokomo after receiving a report that a protected species of bird had been shot in a wooded area of the park. 

According to the HSCO and Indiana DNR, the suspect allegedly shot a hawk, which is classified as a protected species. 

The hawk was taken to a rehabilitation facility where it is expected to survive, according to the social media post. 

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the HCSO through their anonymous tip app or contact the Indiana DNR dispatch at 812-837-9536 and ask to speak with Officer Browning.
