37-year-old man killed in shooting on Indy's northwest side

The man was found dead Wednesday afternoon in the 3900 block of Gable Lane Circle, near 38th Street and Knollton Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating a deadly shooting on the city's northwest side Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of a person shot in the 3900 block of Gable Lane Circle, near 38th Street and Knollton Road, shortly before 3 p.m. Feb. 21.

Officers arrived and found a man just outside the driver's side door of a car with a gunshot wound. Medics arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

On Feb. 22, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as 37-year-old Bryan Ramon Williams.

IMPD said officers detained one male at the scene but hadn't determined what role, if any, they had in the shooting. Thursday morning, the department said the male had been released pending further investigation after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.

"I heard some noises. Now, I think they were gunshots. I've neve heard gunshots, so I don't know, and then I come down to this," recalled Brianna Hicks, a resident at the complex.

Police said a preliminary investigation leads them to believe the incident began somewhere else in the apartment complex. The victim then allegedly drove off in a car and crashed into a van before coming to a stop.

"I mean, it makes me feel a little uneasy because obviously this is supposed to be a gated community," said Codi Laughner, a resident at the complex.
