1 killed, 1 critically injured in west Indianapolis shooting

The shooting was reported around 11:15 a.m. March 20 in the 6400 block of Rockville Road, near North High School Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — IMPD is investigating after one man was killed and another man was critically injured in a shooting on Indianapolis' west side Wednesday morning.

The shooting was reported around 11:15 a.m. March 20 in the 6400 block of Rockville Road, near North High School Road.

Responding officers located two men on the driveway of a home after they had both been shot. Police said guns were found on the driveway near the men as well.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

On March 25, the Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man who died as 24-year-old Julian C. Castrillion.

IMPD confirmed one person had been detained. In an update Thursday, the department said the person had been released pending further investigation after consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.

"It's a very unfortunate, very tragic incident," IMPD Ofc. Samone Burris said. "It's sad. A family is impacted. A community is impacted, and we shouldn't be here having this conversation about choosing other options, other ways — it's just unfortunate."

Police are asking people to avoid the area, if possible, as the investigation continues.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Christopher Edwards at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email the detective at Christopher.Edwards@indy.gov.

Tips can also be made anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
