INDIANAPOLIS — Today will be one of the few dry days in the week ahead. Severe storms will be possible both Tuesday and Wednesday.
A cold front swept across the state overnight and will bring in a less humid air mass today. We're starting off with some remnant cloud cover with a stray shower possible mainly east in the early afternoon. Skies will gradually clear this afternoon. After highs in the low 80s yesterday, we'll be more seasonal today with highs in the mid 70s.
When will the rain return?
Scattered rain returns overnight lifting in from south to north. Allow some extra travel time for your Monday morning commute as roads will be wet. While it won't be an all day washout, scattered rain continues through most of the day. Rain-cooled air with cloudy skies hinders temperatures to the low 70s for highs Monday.
When should we be alert for severe storms?
A few rounds of strong to severe storms will impact Indiana starting Tuesday. A round of storms moves in during the morning hours which could prompt a stronger storm, but the better chance of severe storms will be in the afternoon. All modes of severe weather are possible but the primary threat will be damaging wind gusts and large hail.
Another round of severe weather is possible Wednesday afternoon as a more potent cold front moves through. Highs remain above average in the low 80s both Tuesday and Wednesday.
The cold front passes through late Wednesday/earlyThursday bringing another round of storms, especially during the morning hours with highs falling back into the low 70s Thursday afternoon.
Friday looks to be a mainly dry day with only a stray shower or storm possible but much cooler with highs only in the mid 60s. The cooler air looks to stick around through next weekend with highs in the mid to upper 60s.
