INDIANAPOLIS — Hurricane Delta continues to gain strength this morning, expected to become a major hurricane by Wednesday afternoon.
This morning, it is a Category 2 hurricane with 110 mph winds.
It is expected to become a Category 4 hurricane with 130 mph winds before it hits the Yucatan Peninsula.
An area of high pressure will help steer the storm system to the north, making landfall along the Gulf of Mexico.
Right now, Delta is expected to impact Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama by early Saturday morning as a Category 2 hurricane with winds around 100 mph. The storm system will lose strength as it moves over land. It will start to turn northeast, making its way into the Tennessee Valley this weekend.
The remnants of Delta could have local impacts with clouds and perhaps some rain for the second half of the weekend.
