INDIANAPOLIS — Our most recent drought monitor was released on Thursday, July 7 with data valid up through July 5, 2022.

New drought monitors are released every Thursday from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

The recent rainfall is not accounted for, but it is important to note that conditions were much worse with much of central Indiana reporting moderate drought conditions and even severe drought near Champaign, Illinois.

Over the past 24 hours, southern Indiana received most of the rain with many reporting stations picking up over 0.75" and even higher totals from Martin County to Lawrence County in southern Indiana prompting flood warnings.

This takes Indianapolis' rainfall total to just shy of 1" for the month of July. We're still slightly below normal for the month and still in a 4" deficit for the year.

While the recent rain did put a dent in our drought conditions, we'll still need a few more rain events to get us back to normal.

It doesn't appear we'll get those, though. Stray showers will linger through central Indiana as a frontal boundary continues to push south through the state Saturday.

Skies gradually clear this afternoon as temperatures recover to the low to mid 80s.

A clear sky combined with a northeast breeze overnight will bring in a nice cool down for Sunday morning. Temperatures drop into the upper 50s for lows and into the mid 50s in northern Indiana.

High pressure gains control of our weather starting Sunday, and brings back lots of sunshine and pleasant conditions. With dew points in the 50s, we'll be feeling comfortable as well. Seasonal daytime highs will be in the mid 80s.
