INDIANAPOLIS — The latest drought monitor brought a very good update for Hoosiers, despite a dry stretch to start the month of February.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the entire state of Indiana is clear of drought conditions for the first time since Aug. 29, 2023. While there are still a few areas reporting abnormally dry conditions, this is a drastic improvement in a short period of time.
Heavy rainfall throughout the month of January played a big role in this, as Indianapolis is sitting at 1.50 inches of rainfall surplus for the year so far.
The dry stretch continues for the next several days as a dome of high pressure sits just east of central Indiana. The next rain chance holds off until late Thursday into Friday.
Look for mainly sunny skies across the state today with highs in the upper 40s.
We'll see a few clouds again overnight tonight with lows in the upper 20s. These clouds will clear out with skies becoming mostly sunny Tuesday afternoon as temperatures recover to the upper 40s.
Cloud cover, as well as temperatures, continue to increase Wednesday with highs in the low 50s with skies becoming mostly cloudy.
We'll stay mainly cloudy as temperatures surge into the upper 50s Thursday afternoon.
Rain chances move in late Thursday, with scattered rain showers possible through the day on Friday. Highs will still be near 60 Friday afternoon ahead of rain moving out and slightly cooler air returning to start next weekend.
Look for highs falling back into the low 50s Saturday under a partly cloudy sky.
Another weak wave arrives Sunday, bringing a chance of stray showers, mainly across the southern half of the state, with highs back in the 40s.
