New road construction project comes to Fishers

The area around 146th Street and Allisonville Road is expected remain affected through the end of May.

FISHERS, Ind. — There is another big road project hitting Allisonville Road in Fishers.

Construction began Thursday, March 21. As a result, a new traffic pattern is being implemented for eastbound and westbound 146th Street and Allisonville Road.

“It's going to look more like US 31, where 146th Street goes over Allisonville Road, and a turnabout is underneath,” said Brandi Tarner, of the Hamilton County Highway Department.

A neighborhood at the intersection of Allisonville Road and Chelsea Drive is getting a lot more traffic.

“A lot of overflow traffic here,” Brent Dow said. “(Drivers) using our personal driveway as turnaround locations, which isn't much appreciated."

There will be some temporary lane restrictions during the project, but both directions will continue to have two lanes of travel for thru traffic. During that time, the posted speed limit is 35 mph.

"With Hamilton County growing as much as it has been and 146th being a main thoroughfare, that road sees 140,000 cars per day,” Tarner said. “Just to keep our connectivity moving steadily, it's just going to be the best for us."

Drivers are advised to use caution while driving through this construction zone.

The Fishers Police Department, Noblesville Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department have increased patrols in the area.

"We are all looking forward to the end of the project. We think it's going to be a benefit to all of us,” Dow said. "We are all just trying to get through it on a day-to-day basis."

The area is expected to be under construction through the end of May.
