All lanes on Clark Memorial Bridge are open

“We’re pleased to have safely completed this repair project ahead of schedule to restore full access to the Clark Memorial Bridge,” said KYTC's Matt Bullock.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's official; all lanes of the Clark Memorial Bridge are now reopened.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet officials made the announcement around 6:50 p.m.

Officials said they finished the repair project about a week ahead of schedule. They had closed the bridge entirely for the last stretch of repairs around 2 p.m. on Friday, and said it would open at 5 p.m. but that it could be delayed due to weather.

During Friday's closure, crews removed their construction equipment and re-striped the roadway.

“We’re pleased to have safely completed this repair project ahead of schedule to restore full access to the Clark Memorial Bridge,” said KYTC Chief District Engineer Matt Bullock. “We understand the crucial transportation link between Louisville and Southern Indiana, and we appreciate the public's patience and cooperation throughout this process.”

This all stems from a four-vehicle crash that left a semi dangling from the bridge about 100 feet above water.

Once the semi was safely removed, crews shut down one of the southbound lanes so they could work.

Some of the repairs included removing the damaged sidewalk structure, replacing steel sidewalk beams and pedestrian hand rail, new concrete walking surface, utility repairs and paint touch-ups.

However, the bridge will shut down again for Thunder Over Louisville.
