23-year-old killed in crash after exiting his car on I-69 in Anderson

INDOT confirmed the deadly crash just before 6 a.m. Sunday.

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation says one person died in a crash on Interstate 69 in Madison County Sunday morning.

Just before 6 a.m. March 10, INDOT confirmed the crash was deadly and that all northbound lanes and three southbound lanes were closed for investigation near the Anderson exit.

The Anderson Police Department responded to the incident and determined that two vehicles were initially involved, followed by a third. According to police, one of the drivers had exited his vehicle after the initial crash and was standing near the roadway when he was hit by another car.

The victim, 23-year-old Justin Tracy, from Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

Traffic was diverted northbound at State Road 38 near the 219 mile-marker. INDOT said drivers used the entrance ramp lane to get around the crash scene.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
