Colts' Quenton Nelson named to 6th straight Pro Bowl; 4 players picked as alternates

The Indianapolis Colts guard was announced Wednesday as a starter for his sixth Pro Bowl in as many seasons.

INDIANAPOLIS — Quenton Nelson is heading back to the Pro Bowl Games.

The Indianapolis Colts' guard was announced Wednesday as a starter for his sixth Pro Bowl in as many seasons. Nelson has been named to the Pro Bowl roster every year he has played in the NFL.

According to the Colts, Nelson is the fourth offensive lineman in history to reach the Pro Bowl in each of his first six seasons, joining Zack Martin, Hall of Famer Joe Thomas and Richmond Webb. He's the first Colt to be picked for six straight Pro Bowls since Peyton Manning from 2005-2010.

Nelson was drafted sixth overall in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame.

Four other Colts — defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, linebacker Zaire Franklin, center Ryan Kelly and wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. — were named as alternates for the Pro Bowl Games.

Buckner has been selected for the Pro Bowl twice previously, and Kelly has three career selections. It would be the first Pro Bowl for Franklin and Pittman.

The Pro Bowl Games will be held over several days in Orlando, Florida, matching the AFC against the NFC in a series of skills challenges both on and off the field. The games will wrap up with flag football at Camping World Stadium. Manning and his brother, Eli, will again serve as coaches for the events.

The skills competitions will include tests of traditional football skills — passing, catching and kicking — along with a "closest to the pin" golf contest, NFL Madden video games and dodgeball, among others.
