GREENWOOD, Ind. — A regional title was on the line at Center Grove Friday night on Operation Football.
The Trojans hoped to take the next step toward another state championship, but it would take a win over Warren Central.
The defensive units for both teams came out strong. Warren was driving when Center Grove’s Lincoln Bright got the sack on a fourth down play.
The Warriors strike again. Chazz Corley made an impressive one-handed grab inside the 10 for a 41-yard gain. But Center Grove got a sack on a subsequent play to end the threat.
Center Grove was looking for a spark as the passing game was struggling. Warren’s La’Dre Harris got an interception, and the first half ended in a scoreless tie.
Center Grove’s seniors stepped up. Quarterback Tyler Cherry found Noah McCoy with a 38-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the night.
It was the same combination in the next drive, a touchdown pass from Cherry to McCoy made it 14-0, and the Trojans wins the regional title and will continue their quest for a fourth consecutive state championship.
