It’s high school regionals this week on Operation Football, and a matchup of Class 6A powerhouses didn’t disappoint.
Cathedral and Ben Davis faced off Friday for the first time since 2016, when the two teams also met in the regionals.
Ben Davis took a 10-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
Cathedral cut the lead to seven in the third quarter and were looking for more. Danny O’Neil found tight end Zach Meeks for 25 yards and the game was tied at 17.
It was Ben Davis’ turn. In the first play on the ensuing possession, Alijah Price ran it for 48 yards and the score and the Giants were up 24-17 late in the third quarter.
In the final quarter, O’Neal launched a pass to Devaughn Slaughter that he brought in at the 1-yard line. Keith Long punched it in on the next play and it was knotted at 24 with 10 minutes to go.
Ben Davis’ Ben Rudolph kicked a field goal with three minutes left in the game, and the Giants sealed the win, 27-24.
