Bloomington - Former Indiana University president Adam Herbert tells a Florida newspaper that IU athletic director Rick Greenspan was the one who recommended he hire former coach Kelvin Sampson.
Herbert broke his silence to the Florida Times-Union of Jacksonville in a story printed Tuesday.
"My view at the time, and still is, was that when you have a chance to hire someone with his track record, and whose only offense was telephone calls....when you look in the broader scheme of things, it was worth giving him a second chance," said Herbert.
Kelvin Sampson resigned Friday amid allegations of five potential NCAA violations.
