Goodwill employee finds - and returns - over $4,000 cash in donated suitcase

The cash was found in a donated suitcase.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHR) – It always begs the question: In a similar situation, what would you do?

In the case of an employee at a Goodwill facility in Terre Haute, the discovery of over $4,000 was just the first step in an effort the find the rightful owner.

The cash was found in a donated suitcase. The employee, a sorter whose identity was not released, delivered the money to a supervisor, who was able to locate the donor.

“We operate a work program for many people who have workplace barriers,” said Bill Tennis, Wabash Valley Goodwill Industries CEO. “I think the mere fact that the donor thought of Goodwill and brought that material to our Goodwill location to support our work program is more significant than the find.”

The owner returned to the store to pick up the money and to drop off a reward. The reward will be used to throw an agency-wide pizza party.
