INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Democratic Senate hopeful Evan Bayh says he is cutting through GOP ads accusing him of leaving Indiana for a well-paying lobbying job in Washington.

In a tight race, Republican Congressman Todd Young is hitting that point hard with less than a month until the election.

"It means more to me personally than it does politically. All the negativity in the attacks on television and all that what matters to people is who's going to help them in their daily lives. And the people I've been able to help over the years, the lives I've been able to touch; my family's been able to help - I think that helps cut through some of the negativity out there," said Bayh.

Bayh thanked volunteers at his Indianapolis headquarters.

Many came up to him with recollections of campaigns past. They knew him or knew his family. Those are ties his campaign hopes to capitalize on.

Bayh does not expect Hillary Clinton to stump for him in Indiana.

His father, Birch Bayh, won't be on the campaign trail either. Bayh says the 89-year-old is now hospitalized with pneumonia.
