New Jersey's new governor is wasting little time promoting the issues that carried the political newcomer to victory.

Democrat Phil Murphy on Tuesday will sign an executive order that promotes equal pay for women.

Murphy highlighted the order during his inaugural address in which the former Wall Street executive promised to take a much different approach toward President Donald Trump's policies. Murphy said he would resist every move from Trump and what he called "a misguided Republican Congress."

The new governor called for the wealthy to pay higher taxes, more funding for Planned Parenthood and a $15 minimum wage. He said his vision for a "stronger and fairer" New Jersey includes criminal justice reform and marijuana legalization.

Murphy thanked former Gov. Chris Christie for his service and praised the Republican's work addressing the opioid crisis.

Democrat Phil Murphy was sworn in Tuesday as the state's 56th governor, replacing Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

Murphy's wife and four children joined him on stage as he was sworn-in by state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner at the War Memorial in Trenton.

Murphy is a former Goldman Sachs executive who served as the U.S. ambassador to Germany in the Obama administration.

Murphy built his campaign around undoing the Trump administration's efforts on health care, immigration and taxes.
