YMCA expands child care for essential workers

The YMCA is expanding their child care service to all essential workers in any industry.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Are you an essential worker looking for help watching your kids during the day? The YMCA wants to help.

They're expanding their child care service to all essential workers in any industry.

This is an addition to the child care offered to healthcare and public safety workers.

The program is for kids 5 to 12 years old and the YMCA says they are limiting groups to 10 kids or less per staffer.

The service is offered Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Baxter YMCA, 7900 S. Shelby St., Indianapolis
  • Benjamin Harrison YMCA, 5736 Lee Rd., Indianapolis
  • Hendricks Regional Health YMCA, 301 Satori Pkwy., Avon
  • Irsay Family YMCA at CityWay, 430 S. Alabama St., Indianapolis
  • Jordan YMCA, 8400 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis
  • Witham Family YMCA, 2791 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon

"Part of the mission of the YMCA is to serve the community when there is a need and we definitely feel like there is a need now and so it is kind of up to us to step up to the plate and provide care for our essential workers across Indianapolis." YMCA's Senior Program Director Mark Lantz said.

The program is not free but there is financial assistance available if you need it.
