Woman dies in shooting on city's east side

One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a double shooting on the city's east side early this morning.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTHR) — Family has confirmed to Eyewitness News Monica Pirtle was the woman who died in an overnight shooting on the city's east side.

Another man, who has yet to be identified, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The victims were shot while around 12:30 a.m. while in a car on Crabtree Court in the Orchard Valley Farm neighborhood between 42nd Street and German Church Road.

Police say they are also looking for a third person who may have been involved in the incident. That person is not being called a suspect or a person of interest, but police say the person may have been in the car with the two victims when they were shot.

Police believe that third person ran away from the scene. Police did not give any other potential suspect information.

Medics responded shortly after the call came in and pronounced the female victim dead on-scene. The male victim was taken to an area hospital in serious condition.

A girl, who identified herself as Pirtle's daughter, said the Pirtle's birthday was coming up.

"We were just planning her birthday. Now we’ve got to turn around and plan her funeral," she said.

Family and friends continued to surround the home after police wrapped up their investigation at the scene.
