COLUMBUS, Ind. (WTHR) - A lengthy investigation led to the arrests of a man and woman from Columbus for dealing heroin Tuesday night. The Bartholomew County Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team used tips and information supplied by overdose victims to arrest Matthew "Matty" Zook Tuesday night. Police describe Zook as a "large scale" heroin dealer in the area.

JNET detectives had information that Zook, 34, was traveling to the Cincinnati area buy heroin the night of May 9th, and stopped him north of Columbus on a traffic violation. A police K9 detected narcotics in the vehicle, and a search found 34 grams of heroin as well as two grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, Suboxone strips, drug paraphernalia, cash and a handgun.

Zook and his passenger, Tasha L. Barnes, were both arrested on a number of drug charges. Zook also faces a charge for carrying the gun without a permit.

Police say the investigation could lead to more arrests.
