Demolition underway at troubled Greenwood hotel

13News has shared the ongoing trouble and unsanitary conditions at the Red Carpet Inn and Fanta Suites on Main Street since 2018.

GREENWOOD, Ind. — A troubled hotel in Greenwood has a new owner, and after years of issues, is being torn down.

Ray's Demolition bought the Red Carpet Inn and Fanta Suites from its previous owner.

Crews have been using heavy equipment to clear out the buildings. Utilities were terminated recently.

13News has shared the ongoing trouble and unsanitary conditions at the hotel on Main Street since 2018.

Last year, the City of Greenwood closed Fanta Suites for health and safety hazards.

They had additional concerns in the last few months with squatters and vandalism in the vacant building.

After a lengthy court battle and this new ownership, a spokesperson for Ray's Demolition told 13News once they clear the structure and get permits for demolition, they'll start tearing it down in the next four to six weeks.

After the hotel is gone, the company will turn the area into greenspace for future development and anticipates selling the property.
