Southport Police this weekend are honoring Lieutenant Aaron Allan, two years after he was killed in the line of duty.

SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WTHR) – Southport Police this weekend are honoring Lieutenant Aaron Allan, two years after he was killed in the line of duty.

They recognized his service and sacrifice as the department gained a new class of recruits.

Lt. Allan was shot 11 times while trying to help a man in a car crash in 2017.

Saturday, the chief said this tragedy reminds him of the sacrifices made by all police and their families.

It's a message pass along to the new Southport recruits.

The man accused of killing Allan, Jason Brown, is set to go on trial in February.

He'll be in court for another pre-trial hearing in October.
